Keep the 15-minute standup short: route long AI work to a pinned channel artifact

Use a slot test to keep standups short: decisions stay in the meeting, long AI work becomes a pinned channel artifact.

Your standup is a short slot, and the clock is a bouncer. If the work needs a live human decision, it gets in. If it produces a document, it stays out and leaves a record the team can read. The operating move for a small company is to keep AI-assisted deep work from swallowing the weekly meeting cadence.

The slot test decides what stays in the room

Put the expected output in a sentence before you invite anyone.

  • If the output is a decision, put it in the meeting.
  • If the output is a document, put it in the channel workspace.

You are done when the calendar invite names the decision, not the topic, and the channel message says the draft will land there.

Run the same test on the weekly deep work ritual. A founder asking the model to compare pricing scenarios, draft a post-mortem, or pull together a retro record is not asking for a live vote. The team needs the finished artifact, then a short discussion of what to do with it. The standup earns its slot when people can say yes, no, or change the ask in the room before the next task starts.

The channel workspace carries the long AI work

Slackbot can run in a team channel, not just a private chat. Slackbot's Big Mode gives users a live, full-screen AI workspace inside Slack, suited to longer research, drafting, analysis, and file-generation work. The async deep work stays visible without making every teammate watch the model think.

Check that the team can access the workspace before you assign a task. The access check belongs before the task starts, not in the middle of a scramble for access.

Start the task from the channel where the team will react to it. Strategy briefs, post-mortems, and multi-page analysis keep their context in the same place. In Big Mode, a user can draft a strategy brief or post-mortem across multiple pages, then deliver the finished document to a Surface pinned in a channel. The document is ready when it appears where the team already reads it, not as a file attached to a private chat.

Treat the channel as the team's AI workspace. The work can happen while people are in other meetings, and the artifact can be reviewed when the team has time. Slackbot puts relevant agents inside the conversation, so employees can use specialized skills without losing context or switching channels. The task stays close to the decision without turning the channel into another standup.

Keep a human checkpoint for the parts that can go wrong, especially before anything sensitive ships. Slack Code gives the team a live control point: teammates can pause or redirect an AI agent while it works. Slack Code asks for human approval before high-end changes. A clear stop point beats a team that discovers the model changed the plan overnight.

The pinned artifact makes the standup short

Pin the finished artifact to the channel before the next standup. Slackbot Big Mode can move into a Surface, then be pinned in a channel for the team to share. The pinned item should be open, reviewable, and findable in the meeting without scrolling back through messages.

Run the standup from the artifact, not from the model's process. Open the pinned document, name the decision, and ask for the live human call. Reading-only work moves to the channel. Choosing stays in the room. The meeting ends with a clear output and a pinned record the team can find later.

Make the artifact the shared record the team relies on. A weekly deep work ritual works when the long work happens in the channel and the meeting only handles what cannot be decided in writing. The pinned artifact is the receipt: it shows what was produced and what the team decided next. That keeps the meeting short and the record findable for the next cycle.
